okay so my teacher told us about this study on the nation association of scholars website: http://www.nas.org/print/pressreleases/hqnas/releas_11sep07.htm
i'm sure you don't want to read it so i'll make this a shorter version.. the title is NAS Study Declares Social Work Education to Be a National Academic Scandal
so this study basically says that social work isn't scientific and it's idealogical and against western values. they say it's not academic and it's too politically motivated and liberal and they focus too much on social justice.
okay so this is in my social work class and we're just sitting there like ouchiessssssss, those assholes don't know anything
so she did this little searchy search and she found this: http://www.pfaw.org/pfaw/general/default.aspx?oid=16210 and this one says that the NAS is a right winged group out to compat liberal education "NAS was founded to bring together conservatives in academia to fight the “liberal bias” on college and university campuses and to target multiculturalism and affirmative-action policies"
and they sound so official... haters
fuck that shit!

| figuring this out |

okay so... going to portugal in less than a month (July 22nd) for 16 days by the time i leave i should have 2100 dollars if i work EVERY SINGLE possible hour i can at work so mon-fri: 10-4 which i usually don't... i figure that's about how much i'll need for 16 days in another country where our money is worth shit
then i have... two weeks to make money for school so i'll have 600 dollars for school and that's assuming i don't spend ANY money anymore
i hate that i can't get a job during school since my school is so isolated and it's almost impossible for me to get a job unless i have a car.
i guess hopefully i won't spend that much money in portugal so i can have some more for school, i'll just bring 1500 and my problems will be solved? cause then i'll have the exact same amount of money i had last year for first semester
okay just had to figure that out lol done i can't wait to start my social welfare classes next year :)

so there was a bball game today cause Ualbany got into the NCAA tournament which is hard for a suny sschool so it's a "big deal"... the game started at around 12:15 so it wouldn't be over by the time i had my personality class which is at 1:40.. we were supposed to have a test today but my teacher postponed it until monday... she said we had to go to class though and what she did was gave us three extra credit points if we came, let us out early, and went over things that were unclear that would be on the tests... a lot of students didn't come because it wasn't mandatory and the game didn't end until about the middle of our class (UA lost btdubs)... so we have this thing called webct and there's a discussion section where you can write comments or discussions, usually academically like "oh what's gunna be on the test" or "what is operant conditioning" stuff like that.. usually when kids are confused. it's so that the students and the teacher can all be in contact since our class is in a big lecture hall okay so this is what happened SERIOUSLY READ IT, IT'S CRAZYYYY (i italicized my teacher) Message no. 57 Author: JACOB SCHLAN Date: Friday, March 16, 2007 2:41pm Please correct me if im wrong, but did you not move our exam "because the Men's Basketball game is 12:00 on Friday..." So its alright to postpone an exam but you still expect us to attend class during the same time... therefore not giving us a legit oppertunity to watch a SCHOOL EVENT. I franky find it pathetic that you have no school spirit, along with any of the other students who attended your class. To reward them for not supporting our university is ridiclious.
Message no. 58 Author: John Giuca Date: Friday, March 16, 2007 2:48pm I am offended that you are calling everyone who showed up for class today "pathetic." I would have loved to have stayed and watch the entire game in the CC, but i find my education to be more important. Whether the test was postponed or not, i think that just because we have different priorities, does not mean you should call us pathetic.
Message no. 59 Author: Christine Franco Date: Friday, March 16, 2007 3:05pm Jacob,
Your posting, and the tone which you have chosen to take with me, is not only uncalled for and offensive, but extremely disrespectful. It is disrespectful to me as your instructor, and is certainly insulting to your fellow students. I do not appreciate it, NOT will I tolerate it from ANY student of mine.
While I may not be a faculty member, and while I am closer in age to you than many other instructors, make no mistake that I am still your instructor. As such I fully expect a certain level of respect from all my students.
Additionally, I will not allow this discussion board to be used as a forum for insults. Anyone doing so will be addressed by me and the Administrative staff, including the Chair of the Department. This discussion forum is for the collegial exchange of ideas, not slander against myself or other students. I WILL NOT TOLERATE ITS USE AS SUCH.
If you or any other student has a problem with this, or with me personally, I am more than happy to meet with you. If need be, we can meet with the Chair of the Department and a member of the Judicial Affairs board.
I have a zero tolerance approach to this type of behavior and will address it as such. ~Christine
Message no. 60 Author: JACOB SCHLAN Date: Friday, March 16, 2007 3:13pm Please don't be flustered by my comments, although next time i would apperciate a response that in some way relates to my topic. Just FYI -
Slander - A type of defamation. Slander is an untruthful oral (spoken) statement about a person that harms the person's reputation or standing in the community.
My personal opinions are not untruthful since its impossible for you to judge the validity of my feelings.
Message no. 63 Author: SAL GUIGLIANO Date: Friday, March 16, 2007 7:14pm If anything, her moving the test IS for school spirit. Everyday, Prof. Franco has been telling us to support our basketball team. Not to mention, giving us an additional weekend to study for the test.
Message no. 64 Author: JAMES LUZZO Date: Friday, March 16, 2007 7:41pm im sayin it was nice enough she changed the test from fri to monday, if ur really not gunna be at class take the missed absence instead of a missed test which is a lot better...you the kind of kid that would ruin shit for us later if it came down to her doin sumin nice for the class, respect the teacher and her decision..

I expect this student, James Luzzo, to be at the same Administrative meeting you asked me to attend. I believe "you the kind of kid that would ruin shit for us later if it came down to her doin sumin nice for the class" violates the terms of use you have set. It would be EXTREMELY unfair to single out one student when its blatantly clear that other students have committed the same offense.
Message no. 67 Author: Christine Franco Date: Friday, March 16, 2007 8:52pm I will politely ask all students to PLEASE refrain from further comments on this particular posting.
I am dealing with each instance of postings individually, rest assured. I am doing this under the guidance of a senior faculty member who is assisting me in dealing with this matter effectively.
I need all students to cease correspondence on this matter immediately, so that I may effectively handle everything as quickly as possible. Continued comments only escalates the problem and makes things more difficult.
I need this forum to be solely for academic correspondence, as it is intended.
Thank you all for understanding. ~Christine
